Balfour Beatty extends its use of Greenroad

Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions (BBUS) will extend the use of GreenRoad’s 360TM to its fleet of 1400 commercial vehicles over the next six months. The move is another step forward on BBUS’ ZERO HARM journey, significantly reducing driver risk and improving fuel efficiency.

BBUS first introduced GreenRoad 360 alongside a number of other technological solutions at the beginning of 2009, delivering a driver risk reduction strategy that demonstrated tangible results. The service is currently in use in 40% of BBUS' commercial vehicles, and will now be rolled out across the remaining commercial fleet as well as a number of company cars.

The GreenRoad device, which captures real-time feedback on a driver's skills, empowers individuals to make their driving safer and more fuel efficient. The solution includes a small LED display in the cab to give drivers feedback on their driving skills with green, amber and red lights to indicate the type of driving manoeuvres. A more detailed analysis of feedback is also available to BBUS' Driver Risk team, who can continually assess a driver's skill with a view to providing advice and guidance on safer driving techniques.

"BBUS's decision to roll out GreenRoad's solution is testament to the impressive safety, Return on Investment and fuel saving results BBUS has already achieved with GreenRoad," said Aidan Rowsome, General Manager, GreenRoad Europe, Middle East and Africa. "With this new three year contract, BBUS is not simply talking about corporate responsibility, but making it a reality, with a safer, cleaner environment for employees, clients and the wider public."

Brent Mitchell, BBUS' Head of Support Services commented: "We have made a number of significant improvements over the last several years to reduce road risk in our business and have also worked closely with Brake, the road safety charity, for over three years. This has helped us make excellent progress over the same period, reducing the severity of incidents while at the same time working with our drivers to change attitudes and behaviours."

"GreenRoad 360 forms an integral part of our ZERO HARM journey to reduce driver risk thereby helping us to deliver our occupational road risk commitments whilst also meeting our sustainability targets."
