Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 mobile crane is Bronzeshield’s “flagship” lifter

Bronzeshield Lifting Limited continues its 20 years’ association with Liebherr and has taken delivery of a 500 tonnes capacity LTM 1500-8.1 mobile crane, further confirming their confidence in the Liebherr range. This latest addition is now Bronzeshield’s “flagship” lifter and joins 30 other Liebherr mobile and construction cranes in the expanding and busy hire fleet which now totals in excess of 60 models, representing one of the most modern crane fleets in the UK hire industry. Almost immediately after receiving their new 500 tonner, Bronzeshield’s Managing Director Bill Frost placed an additional order for a 200 tonnes capacity LTM 1200-5.1 which will join the fleet in May.

Operating from depots in the South-East of England and East Anglia, Bronzeshield Lifting provides a nationwide crane hire service. Their new LTM 1500-8.1 mobile crane has been taken with top specifications and numerous optional extras to provide a truly versatile crane for the company’s increased involvement in the heavy lift arena. The 7-section 84m main boom and long fly-jib options on the LTM 1500-8.1 also provide Bronzeshield with considerable height and reach capabilities, with impressive load capacities at both height and working radius.

Bronzeshield’s new LTM 1500-8.1 is an eight axle, 500 tonnes maximum load capacity mobile crane, supplied with the option of a 4-section 50m or seven-section 84m electronically controlled main telescoping oviform boom. This latest generation model features a multi-variable boom configuration system with a Y-boom guying system, a 63m fixed lattice fly-jib mountable at 0° or 20° and a 91m luffing fly mountable at inclinations of 83°, 75° and 67°. With the 14m lattice boom extension and maximum fly, the LTM 1500-8.1 can attain an impressive 145m under hook height and a lifting capacity of 3.5 tonnes at 108 metres working radius.

The crane superstructure is powered by a Liebherr engine type D936L A6 which develops 240kW and is in accordance with the 97/66/EG stage 3 and EPA/CARB Tier 3 directive with regard to exhaust emissions. The tiltable operator’s cab is air-conditioned with a fully adjustable and heated seat with armrest integrated controls, full instrumentation and display of all essential operating functions on the LICCON monitor.

The 16X8X12 drive/steer crane carrier is also powered by a 97/66/EG stage 3 and EPA/CARB Tier 3 Liebherr engine type D 9508 A7, which develops 500kW. All the axles are heavy-duty and feature hydropneumatic suspension, load equalisation between axle pairs and automatic levelling; braking is an all-wheel, servo-air, dual circuit system. The four outriggers have hydraulically extendable sliding beams with hydraulic jacks and support pads. The automatic transmission system has 12 forward and 2 reverse gears and the electrical system employs the most modern databus techniques. The spacious and comfortable driving cab is a superb example of the science of ergonomics, with full instrumentation, air-conditioning, power steering, safety glass and is mounted on rubber shock-absorbers for the smoothest possible ride.

Commenting on his latest fleet acquisition, Bronzeshield’s Bill Frost said “One of the many things we like about Liebherr is that they consistently meet their delivery schedule – when they give you a date, they stick to it! Couple that with the build quality, technology, reliability and superb performance right through the duty charts, plus an excellent after sales product support, and we have plenty of reasons to continue with this long and fruitful association. The 200 tonnes capacity LTM 1200-5.1 we’ve also just ordered will add considerable muscle to our growing heavy lift fleet and we are confident that this new addition will fulfil all our expectations”.
