Liebherr-Great Britain Limited has installed a 110 metres section of embedded rail for brake testing of Road Rail Vehicles at their Biggleswade headquarters in Bedfordshire. Originally created for statutory annual brake testing, calibrating, load testing and trialling their own highly successful and market-leading A 900 C ZW Litronic Railroaders (specifically designed and built to meet the exacting standards of RIS 1530), Liebherr now offers this brand-new facility to operators, hire and training companies involved in maintaining the fabric of the UKís rail infrastucture. Additionally, a separate rolling road is also on the site where RRVsí road wheels can be run to identify the source of any braking inefficiencies.
With a large and growing population of Liebherr A 900 C ZW Litronic Railroaders now operating in the UK and significant forward orders scheduled for delivery to customers for many months to come, Liebherr took the confident decision to be self-sufficient in testing its own specialist road/rail machines with the installation of the 110m rail section. The new track and rolling road is now available to accredited companies who wish to use a first class brake test facility with Speedo verification if required. Tests can be carried out by Liebherrís own qualified engineers or by client staff, which means that on-track training and assessment by third party accredited personnel can be achieved in a safe and controlled environment.
The Biggleswade site also includes meeting rooms with state-of-the-art presentation equipment, a staff, visitor and customer dining room and arguably one of the largest and most modern workshops of its type in the UK, offering ideal facilities for training and assessment off track and under cover. Fitters can also be trained or assessed for their RPA cards, as well as operators and machine controllers wishing to obtain or renew their Sentinal Cards.
As well as operators and specialist plant hirers and training companies in railway construction and maintenance, it is anticipated that this new service may also be of equal interest to organisations with railheads at their operations in industries such as quarrying, coal, aggregates, grain and general bulk solids handling, as well as docks, harbours and petrochemical facilities.
