David McCulloch Groundworks Contractors adds new Volvo EC27C to fleet

Having participated in several customer clinics at Volvo Construction Equipment’s compact equipment facility located in Belley southern France to provide practical input and suggestions to the final design of the new 2.7 tonne EC27C mini excavator, David McCulloch has had no qualms in ordering one for his groundworks contracting company. “I’m really pleased Volvo took our points on board because the new EC27C is certainly impressive on power, performance and operator comfort,” continued David. “It’s easy to transport, it’s versatile and for me - represents a good return on my investment.” Specifically David Mc Culloch has noticed a marked improvement over the EC25 it replaces in terms of hydraulic and tracking performance with the capability of handling larger buckets without compromising on stability.

The new EC27C sold to David McCulloch is the first of its kind to be delivered in Scotland replacing the previous EC25 and EC30 models. Powered by a Volvo 1.6 litre low emission Tier III the machine delivers the performance in the range of the previous Volvo EC30 – yet with a compact design reminiscent of the smaller EC25. The conventional excavator design provides exceptional stability along with minimal superstructure swing. Simultaneous control of slew and offset movements provides faster, more precise performance due to the right joystick control lever that features an electronically proportional roller. This allows the operator to accurately adjust hydraulic flow as needed.

All hydraulic functions are performed in total independence for more control and less delay when handling multiple tasks. An automatic two-speed travel system engages when operating in high speed mode, automatically shifting gear from high to low according to the travel load. Another feature for increased efficiency is the standard auto-idling system that lowers engine speed to idle if a control is not used for five seconds. The engine reverts to the pre-selected speed almost instantly when any control is moved. This system delivers lower fuel consumption, longer engine life and less environmental noise.

The Volvo EC27C features Volvo’s industry-leading comfortable cab for less fatigue and more production. The ergonomically-designed cab offers greater leg and foot room, making it one of the most spacious in its category. Optional air conditioning with an included heater is also available, for year-round productivity in hot, humid or cold climates. An optional high backed seat has been specified by David McCulloch adding to an increased level of operator comfort.

David McCulloch Groundworks Contractors with its base in Tillicoultry Clackmannanshire undertakes a full range of groundworks projects from house building infrastructure, driveways and access roads to small civil engineering works across the central belt of Scotland. The EC27C joins existing Volvo EC25 & EC55B compact excavators.
