Speedy makes heavy-duty generator investment

Speedy – the UK’s largest tool and equipment hire firm – has invested almost £800,000 in a new fleet of 1250kVA Generating Sets from specialist manufacturer, Cummins Power Generation.

The heavy-duty containerised systems provide on-site or emergency back-up power for large scale projects, particularly in the utilities, facilities management, major events, shipping, industrial and manufacturing sectors.

The Cummins 1250kVA Powerbox units feature the KTA50G3 engine, which is recognised globally for its robust and cost-effective performance, even under severe weather conditions.

The generators are also are fully bunded to contain all spillages, avoiding site pollution. Anna Currie, technical director at Speedy, said: “The international major projects market is the fastest growing generator rental market in Europe – conservative estimates value it at around £50 million per year, with annual growth of 7.5 per cent.

“The majority of the market is in the utilities sector and we are seeing year-round demand, especially from Mediterranean countries. Our customer base in this market is growing rapidly and usage of our existing fleet frequently has been frequently reaching 100 per cent.

“This investment will allow us to continue to support our customers by ensuring that leading equipment is always available when it is needed.”
