A 6 tonne (6000kg) capacity mobile yard ramp has been added to the extensive range available from loading and unloading equipment specialists, Thorworld Industries Ltd.
Measuring 10.9m long with a usable width of 2240mm, it has been introduced in response to customer requests for a more lightweight yard ramp available at an economy price.
It becomes the smallest model in Thorworld's Standard Ramp range, which now covers 6, 7 and 10 tonne capacity versions. All three Standard Ramps are intended for light duty applications where they might perhaps only be used for up to 3-4 times a day.
They are ideal for the fast and efficient loading and unloading of vehicle trailers and containers by fork truck, particularly where there is no raised loading dock.
Ruggedly built of solid beam construction, they have a serrated open grid deck for positive traction in all weathers and, if required, they can be quickly and easily moved to a different location.
A hand-operated hydraulic pump quickly raises them to the required height and they are equipped as standard with 1.8m of safety chain on each side for securing to the truck or loading dock.
They are CE marked and conform to all European quality and safety standards and legislation.
The new Standard light duty model now joins others in Thorworld's market-leading line-up of steel mobile container loading ramps of varying capacities.
The Super Deluxe/Recycling Ramp is available in both 12 and 15 tonne capacities and they are ideal for heavy duty applications, typically on a consistent three-shift operation, in the most rigorous working environments such as the recycling industry.
The Deluxe Ramp is available in a 10 tonne capacity and is ideally suited for medium duty applications, such as continual use on a single shift basis.
Bespoke models can be supplied to meet individual requirements and a comprehensive service and maintenance back-up facility is available to help ensure that the ramps are always kept in top condition.
A ramp rental facility is also provided through the company's RentARamp operation, with a sale or return option.
Thorworld is firmly established as a leading, one-stop, single source supplier to the loading bay and materials handling sectors, and is recognised as both a leader and innovator in the provision of quality engineered equipment.
BSI registered with ISO 9002 accreditation since 1992, as well as CE mark certification, it was one of the first companies in the industry to achieve the ISO 9001:2000 international quality management standard.
John Meale, Managing Director of Thorworld Industries, is the current Vice President of the Federation Europeenne de la Manutention (FEM) – the European Federation of Materials Handling, as well as being President of FEM's Elevating Equipment Product Group. In addition he is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (FCILT), a member of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET), a former President of the British Materials Handling Federation (BMHF), and past President of the Association of Loading & Elevating Equipment Manufacturers (ALEM).
Mr Meale has previously warned that there have been problems with the use of poor quality ramps from Eastern Europe and beyond and said: "Using inferior imported materials handling and loading bay equipment could be a threat to the safety of personnel in the workplace.
"The solution is always to check with the supplier before you buy or rent that the equipment is CE marked and has been manufactured fully in accordance with EU quality and safety standards; don't just assume it has been. It's a false economy to buy or rent cheap substitutes if they are not totally safe to use, as it could lead to a serious accident, as well as disrupting loading and unloading operations."
In addition to its mobile yard ramps, Thorworld provides a wide range of high quality loading & unloading equipment and loading bay accessories & safety aids, such as: dock shelters & seals, dock levellers, modular loading docks, dock plates & boards, dock & vehicle bumpers and wheel chocks, as well as the Truckloada mobile yardlift and the Dockloada scissor lift platform.
