Increasing numbers of customers are specifying JCB’s unique TorqueLock system on new backhoe loaders as they recognise the cost savings it offers during the current economic downturn.
In the first half of 2008 around 40% of JCB backhoe loaders sold in the UK were fitted with TorqueLock but in the corresponding period this year, that has almost doubled to nearly 80%.
Among those to invest in JCB backhoes with TorqueLock is York-based Tony Hudson Plant Hire who has just taken delivery of 10 JCB 3CX models fitted with the system.
Director Neil Hudson said: “We have always used JCB backhoe loaders, as not only is the build quality excellent, JCB also continually introduces new features to stay ahead of the competition. The TorqueLock system is one of those features and it really makes a real difference - reducing fuel consumption and saving us money. Covering all of Yorkshire, we often have long distances between job sites. TorqueLock enables us to reduce travel times so we spend less time on the road and more time earning.
“Like all companies in the current climate we are scrutinising the costs of running our business, so, having experienced the fuel savings on some existing machines, we did not think twice about choosing the system for the new additions to our fleet.”
David Bell, Managing Director of JCB Sales added: “We are always looking at ways to help our customers do business in a more cost effective way and the introduction of TorqueLock has proved a significant success. More and more customers have recognised the genuine cost and productivity savings it can bring – as can be seen by the vast increase in the proportion of customers specifying the system during the current challenging economic conditions.”
Available on high specification backhoe loader models, JCB’s revolutionary TorqueLock system provides customers with a significant advantage over competitive backhoe loaders in terms of productivity and fuel economy – reducing fuel consumption by up to 25%.
Cost savings are achieved through the system engaging in top gear, ensuring the machine maintains top speed for longer, which is particularly advantageous when travelling up hill. At full engine rpm, TorqueLock can reduce travelling time between JCB sites by 10% as well as reducing fuel usage.
The TorqueLock system is available as an option on powershift and autoshift transmission models featuring the new JCB Dieselmax engine (92hp and 100hp turbocharged versions).
