New JCB backhoe launch signals greater operator benefits

JCB has launched the new 3CX Contractor Pro which has been tailor-made for UK owner-operators to give the ultimate in backhoe loader performance.

Shown for the first time on the Watling JCB stand at SED 2009, the new Contractor Pro package combines innovative new developments with JCB’s highest specification backhoe loader features as standard - to deliver the most comfortable and productive 3CX model JCB has ever built.

Available with JCB’s EasyControl or Advanced EasyControl servo systems, brand new features of the 3CX Contractor Pro include:

  • Liquid-fill puncture protection on tyres
  • State-of-the-art MP3 compatible Bluetooth hands free radio/CD player
  • Front impact bumpers
  • Telescopic steering column, previously only available on Advanced EasyControl machines
  • A free JCB Operator’s Pack worth over Ł400

The machine also features:

  • Superior high-output air-conditioning and a heated suspension seat which, coupled with the new radio system and telescopic steering column, ensure fatigue-free, all-day working
  • JCB TorqueLock, limited slip differential and JCB Powerslide to increase efficiency and speed
  • Screen protection, hammer pipework and an object handling lifting kit to boost the machine’s versatility and ensure conformance with the latest EN74 standards

David Bell, Managing Director of JCB Sales, said: “The UK market continues to migrate towards higher specification machines and the traditional JCB 3CX Contractor continues to prove extremely popular.

“With the introduction of the new 3CX Contractor Pro, we aim to give the professional contractor an even more versatile machine to set them apart from the competition. Enhanced comfort levels reflect the long periods spent in the cab and the innovative features contribute to even more efficient performance. Recognising the difficulties presented by the economic downturn, we are offering the machine with a series of incentives to enable customers to capitalise on the clear productivity benefits it delivers.”

Included within these standard features are several new innovations. The new stereo system raises the bar in terms of backhoe loader in cab technology. The state-of-the-art, MP3 compatible, Bluetooth hands free radio/CD player is a removable, flip-down version for increased security. It features a high specification Bluetooth receiver for connectivity with other devices such as the JCB Toughphone which is included within the Operator’s Pack. The phonebook stored on the mobile can be viewed on the stereo’s display screen. The system also responds to voice commands including voice-activated dialing. A USB port enables compatibility with an iPod or other portable MP3 player.

JCB Tyre Sealant protects against punctures and hence reduces machine downtime. The tyres are liquid-filled via the valve stem with the sealant remaining in the reservoir at the bottom of the motionless tyre. As the tyre revolves, the sealant coats the inner surface. If a puncturing object pierces the tread area, the tyre pressure forces the sealant into the hole and forms a cost effective, permanent airtight seal.

In compliance with EN74 (Earthmoving Machinery – Safety) legislation, the 3CX Contractor Pro will be fitted with a protected rear screen which shields the operator should the rear toughened glass be broken by flying debris, when powering a breaker for example. Also in line with EN74, the model is complete with a lifting option package comprising hose burst check valve on the boom ram, an audible warning device in the cab (which indicates to the operator when the object handling capacity is reached), lift charts, a five-tonne rated bucket link and hook.

Powered by a Tier 3-compliant, 100hp (74.2kW) Turbo JCB Dieselmax engine, the JCB boasts a maximum travel speed of 40 kph, a backhoe dig depth of 5.46 metres and a maximum shovel capacity of 1.2mł.

JCB EasyControl offers smooth, low effort and productive backhoe operation, while reducing operator fatigue. Excavator control joysticks are integrated into the seat, providing increased legroom, improved visibility and hydraulic excavator ergonomics. A proportional switch mounted in the joystick operates JCB’s Extradig and optional auxiliary circuits are also available to operate various attachments. The low effort mechanical loader control incorporates a proportional switch to operate loader mounted attachments.

Advanced EasyControl is an alternative hydraulic control system which builds on the successful EasyControl system, it offers even higher levels of operator comfort, control and performance. Features include seat mounted controls which operate both the excavator and loader. In addition, Advanced EasyControl boasts high output variable flow hydraulics for increased fuel efficiency, faster digging cycles and maximum productivity, with additional filtration for improved efficiency and reliability. Flow sharing gives smooth operation as when using an excavator.

The unique JCB TorqueLock system reduces fuel consumption by up to 25%, maintains road speed up hills for longer and allows the machine to reach its destination quicker or increase its working radius.
