Bespoke kit aids diversification at QTS

QTS Plant, a division of the QTS Group located near Drumclog, South Lanarkshire has taken delivery of more Volvo compact excavators for its uniquely diverse fleet of equipment.

Established in 1992 by managing director Alan McLeish the QTS Group has developed offering bespoke solutions to a broad range of applications, predominantly for the rail network, Scottish Water, Scottish Power and associated industries. Starting from a background in the forestry industry, Mr McLeish has always had an eye for the bigger picture. "Diversification is the key to our success," he concludes for besides specialising in providing a service to the rail, power and water industries, his company can still provide straight forward and bespoke plant hire, civil engineering solutions, hard and soft landscaping projects, operator training and a wide range of ancillary services.

The latest Volvo mini excavators to join the QTS fleet are an ECR88 Plus and ECR38 and join other Volvo models in the range including a BL71 backhoe loader and two 14 tonne EC140's. All of the machines benefit from having Engcon tilt rotators being fitted - (QTS is an official dealer for the product). "Again with the Engcon product we are able to place the machines into quite diverse applications especially on our railway work," commented Alan McLeish. "So far we've been more than happy with our Volvo machines in terms of performance and reliability," he continued.

The Volvo ECR88 PLUS is powered by a Volvo three point four litre low emission engine producing 57 net hp coupled to a load sensing hydraulic system for fast cycle times and smooth control. The machine offers an impressive ground reach of seven point three metres and a lifting capacity of 960kg at full reach across carriage. The smaller ECR38 weighing in at just under four tonnes features a one point six litre engine but an equally impressive reach and lift capacity of four point five metres and 325kg respectively. Operator comfort and excellent access to servicing on both models were also a deciding factor in opting for the Volvo product. The ECR88 Plus has a comfortable, spacious cab with a wide uncluttered floor. The instrument panel provides operators with at-a-glance monitoring of all key functions and operator fatigue is reduced through easy-grip, high response joystick control levers. The rubber-mounted cabs reduce whole-body vibration, and external noise minimizing the rigors of the jobsite whilst air conditioning with well positioned vents is a standard feature.
