Kubota, the UK, European and world leader in mini excavators, has introduced the U17-3, an advanced 1.65 tonne zero tail swing machine that supersedes the existing U15-3 model.
The U17-3 sits between the 990kg U10-3 and the 2.1 tonne U20-3 in the company's highly versatile U-series zero tail swing range.
A key feature is its adjustable track gauge. To further increase stability, the U17-3's tracks can be expanded to a maximum of 1,240 mm. When retracted to 990mm it can pass through narrow doorways and operate in tight work areas. On both sides of the dozer, dozer blade extensions are standard.
The U17-3 is powered by the same well-proven Kubota engine that is used in the 1.5 tonne KX41-3 model. It generates 15.2kN of maximum digging force at the bucket and has a maximum reach of 3,900mm at ground level with a maximum digging depth of 2,310mm.
Inside the cab Kubota's Intelligent Control System displays easy-to-understand diagnostics of current working conditions, together with warning indicators for engine rpm and hour meter, as well as for fuel, temperature and oil levels. When filling up with fuel the panel informs the operator when the tank is nearly full, and alerts him when routine maintenance is due.
The use of new short-pitched rubber crawlers helps minimise vibration during travel for improved operator comfort.
The Kubota U17-3 incorporates the company's unique key-based 'ANTI-THEFT' security system, the only one of its kind to be fitted as standard equipment by a mini excavator manufacturer.
Maintenance is simplified by a fully double opening bonnet to access engine, air cleaner and water separator via the rear engine cover, with hydraulic control valve access from inside the cabin. Hoses to the dozer and boom cylinders are of a two-piece design to reduce hose replacement time.
At 1.65 tonnes the U17-3 can be legally towed between sites by a standard 4x4 unit or other suitable vehicle, in line with individual vehicle manufacturer recommendations and Department for Transport regulations.
Kubota offers 19 base models, the widest range available from any manufacturer. They span the weight categories 850 kg to 8 tonnes and include the largest selection of highly versatile zero tail swing machines; providing exceptional choice for customers.
The company has again outstripped its rivals with the recent announcement that all their new machines will now carry a full 3 year warranty as standard.
The new 3 year warranty applies to all models across the entire Kubota range. Typically most other manufacturers currently offer a maximum 2 year standard warranty period.
Richard Harrison, Sales & Marketing Manager, Kubota (UK) Ltd – Construction Equipment said: "Our decision to extend the standard warranty to 3 years (or 3,000 hours) is another industry first for Kubota and confirms our confidence in the quality, reliability, durability and superiority of our machines.
"Together with outstanding performance, excellent residual values, exceptional dealer support and our unique 'ANTI-THEFT' security system as standard, this provides unbeatable value for money for buyers and hirers alike – a vitally important consideration in the current economic climate."
The compactness, productivity, versatility and cost-effectiveness of Kubota mini excavators – all featuring world leading Kubota engines to provide powerful, economic and environmentally sound performance - make them ideal for many different applications and end-users; from building, construction, civil engineering, quarrying, demolition, recycling and landscaping, to plant hire companies, utilities and owner operators.
