Volvo L90Fs continue a tradition at Taylormade Timber

Two L90F wheeled loaders carry on a long tradition of Volvo products being operated by Taylormade Timber Products Ltd at their extensive sawmill located at Sherburn Hill, Co Durham.

Replacing two L90E models, the new F series machines join two existing E series loaders sharing both log handling and chip loading duties at the Sherburn Hill site. All four machines are fully occupied operating two daily shifts. From 06.00 until midnight they are constantly on the go unloading logs from incoming transport to loading out wood chips into bulk tippers for onward processing at chip board manufacturers or for biomass power stations. "We've chosen the Volvo machines once again as they have proved extremely reliable and have given superb performance over a long period of time," said Log Supply Manager Keith Haywood. "They are ideally suited to the application and when we've carried out the occasional competitive comparison, they win hands down every time," he continued.

The two new machines are equipped with optional boom suspension or ride control systems to facilitate ease of handling the logs at speed around the site. They also benefit from L4 heavy duty tyres to counter wear on the often slippery surfaces in the log yard; windscreen mesh guarding and additional protection around vulnerable areas such as the battery boxes. The L90F is installed with a six litre 174 hp Volvo low emission engine providing maximum torque at 1600rpm and has an operating weight of just over 15.1 tonnes. The engine is well matched to the load sensing hydraulic system for maximum efficiency and fuel economy as well as its purpose designed and manufactured Volvo powertrain components. The machines have been supplied complete with Volvo hydraulic attachment brackets making the changeover from bucket to log forks quick and easy. The Volvo patented TP loader linkage provides exceptional benefits for log handling, combining the best of both parallel and z bar linkages and offering superior breakout torques whilst crowding back. This gives the operator complete control when unloading logs from bunkers.

Taylormade Timber, established in the late 1970's, operates two mills located at Sherburn Hill, Co Durham and at Annan in Dumfriesshire. Over 6000 tons of mixed conifer logs can be processed per week with raw material supplied from Northumberland, Co Durham, North Yorkshire and the Scottish borders. The Company produces fencing materials in bulk such as posts, rails and fence boards supplying fencing manufacturers the length and breadth of the UK. In addition, a significant proportion of their output is supplied t the U.K.'s pallet making sector.
