OPERC Launch the New Lifelong Learning Zone (22/03/06)
On the 21st March, at the HSE offices in Southwark, London, OPERC Executive launched the new Lifelong Learning Zone to members. Essentially the zone consists of 20 modules that provide basic training materials on various health and safety topics (Fire, noise, HAV etc.), in a range of formats. Each module contains approximately 20 pages of text, figures, illustrations, tables and diagrams and is divided into an introduction (which lists course aims and objectives), the main learning resources and an end of module 'multiple choice' test. At present, modules are available on-line and as downloadable PDFs (with and without test question answers). However, shortly OPERC plan to release a new textbook which will contain many of these modules and PowerPoint presentations for when training groups of people.
A further 30 modules are planned for the next three years and the next 10 have already been produced.
The great benefits of this new resource are: i) the high quality of materials produced; and ii) the low cost of registration to members - £360 per annum. Members can train as many people as they wish on as many modules they see fit for this one-off fee each year.
