After an exhaustive tendering process that involved all the major players in the plant and tool hire industry, A-Plant, one of the leading non-operated equipment rental companies in the UK, has been awarded a new two-year supplier contract by Skanska UK for the supply of plant, tools and equipment. With a total annual spend at Skanska for hire of this type of equipment worth around £5 million, the new contract for A-Plant builds on the close working relationship the companies have developed over the past eight years. The terms of the new A-Plant contract also allow for a one-year extension based on performance.
Employing over 5000 staff in the UK, Skanska undertakes over £1.3 billion of work each year in this country. Skanska operates under two clear business units - Construction and Infrastructure developments - and carries out some of the largest and smallest projects the company undertakes. The company is dedicated to providing sustainable solutions and leading in quality, green construction, work safety and business ethics.
Sat Dhaiwal, Chief Executive Officer of A-Plant said: "Our ability to support Skanska to the highest levels over the last eight years was key to winning the new plant, tools and equipment hire contract. We have also been a preferred supplier to McNicholas, part of Skanska, for the past 16 years. Skanska values the full operational support we provide at A-Plant, including delivery guarantees, health and safety focus and market-leading IT capabilities, complemented by one of the youngest equipment fleets in the UK."
A-Plant has on-site staff and hire facilities at some of Skanska's most prominent projects in the UK. They include the Highways Agency M1 Widening Project being carried out by a Skanska Joint Venture and massive hospital contracts such as the redevelopment of St Bartholomew's Hospital (Barts) and The Royal London Hospital; the Modernisation of King's Mill Hospital in Mansfield and the new acute hospital and clinical sciences teaching and research facility being built near Coventry.
On all of these projects, A-Plant has set up a dedicated hire facility offering many types of equipment from power tools to general plant such as dumpers, mini-excavators and telehandlers as well as specialist equipment such as Accommodation units, Power Generation Equipment and Powered Access equipment to meet the requirements of Skanska and its sub-contractors.
With capital expenditure of over £100 million budgeted for this financial year, A-Plant has a programme of continuous investment in brand new state-of-the-art equipment from world-leading manufacturers to meet the needs, not only of its Key Account customers, but also the local business served by over 200 A-Plant depots nationwide. A-Plant offers a complete one-stop shop from a broad product offering to over 30,000 customers in the construction and industrial markets nationwide.
