A-Plant Crowned Supreme Champion Of The Construction Industry

Leading hire company A-Plant has been singled out as the outstanding company in the UK construction sector by being declared the winner of the Contract Journal Supreme Award at the Contract Journal Construction Industry Awards 2008 hosted at Grosvenor House Hotel in London this week.

A-Plant, which hires out Plant, Tools and Specialist Equipment from over 200 depots nationwide, won the construction industry's most prestigious award against stiff competition from Balfour Kilpatrick, Defence Estates and Mansell, Kier Group and Lakehouse.

The shortlist for the Supreme Award was chosen from all finalists at the Contract Journal Construction Industry Awards 2008 by an eminent panel of judges with representatives from organisations including the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Constructing Excellence, the Construction Plant-hire Association as well as Nick Raynsford MP. The awards were also independently audited by Grant Thornton.

A-Plant's Chief Executive Officer Sat Dhaiwal said: "This counts as one of our greatest ever awards successes and I am delighted that A-Plant has been recognised as an exemplar in the industry. It really does confirm that we have an excellent team at A-Plant and we have implemented industry-leading initiatives to ensure our customers receive a first class service."

The Supreme Award is presented to the company which the judges consider to be changing the way the UK construction industry works and to be making great steps in improving its own performance and that of its customers. On the night, A-Plant had double reason to celebrate after also being awarded the IT Award in recognition of the success of the company's mobile tracking system A-Trak in the recovery of stolen plant. Over 95% of stolen plant protected with A-Trak is recovered against an industry average of only 5%.

A-Plant celebrated exceptional financial results for its 2007/8 financial year, achieving turnover of 214.8 million and increasing operating profits by 46% to 30.2 million. A-Plant forms part of FTSE-250 company Ashtead Group plc which achieved annual Group turnover of more than 1 billion.

A-Plant has some 30,000 customers in the construction and industrial markets and has over 110,000 items of Plant, Tools and Specialist Equipment available to hire - ranging from large plant such as Dumpers, Excavators and Telehandlers, to smaller equipment including Air Powered Tools, Heaters and Lifting Equipment and specialist equipment such as Powered Access Machines, Accommodation Units and Traffic Control and Management Products.
