New Volvo’s for Wheeldon Brothers Waste Ltd

Wheeldon Brothers Waste Ltd, a family run business providing total waste management solutions for Lancashire and Greater Manchester since 1965, has taken delivery of a new Volvo EC210C excavator, complete with a hydraulically adjustable telescopic cab for its recycling facility located at Bury.

The new EC210C twenty one tonne excavator was selected as a result from good reliability and experience from the Company's existing three year old L120E loading shovel and a four year old EC140B operated at the their other recycling facility located at Oldham. "Besides the reliability of the machines we also settled on Volvo for their after market support and the nearness of their depot at Warrington," commented Director James Wheeldon.

Equipped with a hydraulically operated extendable cab and rotating selector grab, the EC210C has been put in charge of the latest picking station that has recently been installed at the Bury facility. With a lift height of 2 metres from normal position, the operator has full visibility for pre sorting material and then loading it directly into the trommel. A hose rupture valve on the cab's lifting cylinder ensures maximum safety and in the event of an emergency a valve accessed from ground level can lower the cab back to its conventional position. The EC210C is powered by a Volvo Tier III low-emission six litre engine developing 150 hp at 1800rpm and a maximum torque of 735Nm at just 1350rpm. This contributes to an excellent performance as it is well matched to the machine's hydraulics providing high efficiency, rapid cycles and low fuel consumption. An advanced mode control system ensures the maximum possible hydraulic horsepower available is delivered at a constant engine speed under varying load conditions. Operators have complete control of the machine's functions thanks to this advanced Volvo technology.

The new EC210C will be deployed handling a wide variety of material at Wheeldon Brothers Waste Ltd ranging from light to heavy industrial and commercial waste. The Company has made a significant investment in recycling up to 80% of the incoming waste brought in by their own fleet of skip lorries as well as from local authorities. Part of this investment has included a third picking and sorting line at their Bury depot and, at their depot in Oldham, two new sorting lines are to be installed. A second EC210C, identical to the first has also been ordered for Oldham.
