New venture New Volvos

Les Taylor Contractors Ltd, situated at Mintlaw, near Peterhead Aberdeenshire, has expanded its quarrying and contracting interests by moving into waste recycling with the addition of new C series Volvo excavators.

Having invested in new Volvo construction equipment products just over a year and a half ago, Les Taylor Contractors has looked to Volvo once again as it kicks off a new venture in waste recycling and handling. Earlier in 2008, the Company acquired the waste and quarrying operation at Ardlethen Quarry, Ellon which included a bespoke materials recycling facility along with a comprehensive waste collection and disposal service. Part of the investment has included new Volvo Construction Equipment products including a thirty six tonne EC360C, two further Volvo EC210C's, a couple of A25E articulated haulers and specifically for the waste transfer shed, a new twenty four tonne EC240C.

Equipped with a rotating selector grab, the EC240C has been put in charge of sorting and segregating material made up predominantly of industrial waste into bins for recycling as well loading high sided bulkers destined for landfill. The EC240C is powered by a 7 litre Volvo Tier III low emission engine developing 170 net hp. Coupled to the innovative to the "Integrated work mode control" hydraulic system the machine delivers high productivity, high digging capacity precision and above all excellent fuel economy. Equipped with the standard 6.0m boom and 2.97m dipper arm the EC240C has plenty of reach and load over height for the job in hand. So equipped, the maximum ground reach is 10.26m and the load over height a generous 6.8m. The machine also benefits from a hydraulic quick hitch facilitating fast change over to standard digging applications.

"We've had an extremely positive experience with our previous Volvo machines which have proved to be reliable and productive. So when it came to replace some of our fleet and for this venture into waste recycling, we decided to choose the package offered once again by Volvo," commented Plant Director Les Taylor Jnr. The recent additions bring the Les Taylor Contractor fleet of Volvo equipment to twenty eight machines in total.

The Les Taylor Group of Companies specializes in quarry resources, logistics, demolition and plant hire, asbestos removal, tip operations and waste recycling in the north east of Scotland.
