"Volvo minis tick every box for us..."

...So says Dave Hazell, Operations Director for Blythewood Plant Hire Ltd

So says Dave Hazell, Operations Director for Blythewood Plant Hire Ltd as the Company replaces a total of 30 compact excavators for its hire fleet.

Having operated Volvo branded compact excavators for a number of years, Dave Hazell has been impressed with the overall reliability and customer acceptance of the Volvo product. "They really do tick all the boxes for us in terms of reliability and up-time, ease of maintenance and ultimately strong residual values," he continued. "The peace of mind element coupled to a competitive package to replace thirty units means we are continuing a good relationship with Volvo Construction Equipment."

This replacement programme falls in line with Blythewood's desire to keep its plant fleet fresh and up to date but is also driven by the Company's continued expansion in the hire market. From its base in Welwyn Garden City Blythewood Plant Hire has expanded its geographical coverage starting some years back with a facility in Peterborough and more recently in 2006 with a depot located in Warrington, Lancashire to tap into the market activities in and around Greater Manchester and Liverpool. A further new facility is about to be opened in Leyton East London. The total number of compact excavators ranging from the EC15BXR (one and a half Tonne) up to the largest Volvo compact machine the ECR88 Plus will be deployed at all of the Company's locations both for external self drive hire as well as for contracts undertaken by its parent company Doyle PLC.

As with all Volvo construction equipment, the compact excavator line develops impressive levels of performance and technological advances. This includes a variable flow power control hydraulic system for precise control under all load conditions and safety features such as Roll Over Protection Structure (ROPS), Tip Over Protection Structure (TOPS) and Falling Objects protection Structure (FOPS) contribute to outstanding operator safety. Specifically for Blythewood Plant Hire Ltd the ECR28 and ECR58 and 88 Plus models, all of which are reduced swing radius machines, will prove to be popular sizes for their customers since they offer a high degree of manoeuvrability in confined spaces, particularly near walls and nearby traffic in urban jobsites. Powered by Volvo low emission engines the machines develop impressive levels of performance thanks to the matching of the engine with a closed centre load sensing hydraulic system. Automatic two speed travel is a feature on the ECR58 &88 Plus models enabling the machines to shift from high travel speed into low according to the load and terrain.

Originating as an in-house plant department for Doyle Plc, Blythewood has evolved into a modern progressive supplier of plant, tools and accommodation hire supplying construction companies, builders and the DIY market. Besides this latest deal for Volvo compact excavators, Blythewood operates a fleet of tele-handlers ranging from 7mt to 12.5mt, dumpers, rollers, access equipment and site accommodation.

Volvo Construction Equipment Ltd market wheeled loaders, articulated haulers, hydraulic excavators, graders, Volvo Compact Equipment and Volvo road machinery products. Nine strategically placed customer support centres and a network of compact equipment dealers ensure high quality customer support throughout Great Britain.
