Volvo EC290C deep cleans for ERS

ERS has taken delivery of a new Volvo EC290C

Environmental Reclamation Services Ltd (ERS) of Bishopbriggs, Glasgow has taken delivery of a new Volvo EC290C for its bespoke ground remediation contracts throughout Scotland and the north of England.

The decision to purchase the twenty nine tonne EC290C excavator from Volvo was based on strong third party references coinciding with a change in ERS's policy of previously hiring to now owning its prime piece of equipment. "Besides the obvious cost savings and the convenience of owning the machine as opposed to hiring different models every time we needed one, we are now in a position to offer a more comprehensive package to our clients," explained Contracts Manager Iain MacKay.

Primarily the EC290C will be deployed on soil remediation activity complete with an Allu 'screener crusher' bucket, blending contaminated soil mixed with compost material, aerating it and depositing it in windrows (bioremediation). The machine was seen as the optimum size for this operation having plenty of reach (max 10.6m) and a lift capacity of 4.7 tonnes at full reach for the weight of the bucket and average weight of material. In addition the EC290C has the digging capacity to undertake the initial prime excavation and re-instatement work on sites requiring ERS's remediation services thus offering a complete package as mentioned by Mr MacKay.

The EC290CL is powered by a 7 litre Volvo Tier III low emission engine developing 195 net hp. Coupled to the innovative "Integrated work mode control" hydraulic system the machine delivers high productivity, high digging capacity precision and above all excellent fuel economy. This advanced mode control system ensures the maximum possible hydraulic horsepower available is delivered at a constant engine speed under varying load conditions. In addition, boom and arm geometry provide highly competitive digging forces and lifting capacities, which makes for faster work cycles. Hose rupture valves are fitted as standard to the boom and dipper cylinders as are quick fit hydraulics and a hammer/shear service - used in this instance to drive the Allu bucket.

The Volvo Care Cab offers a large roomy interior with plenty of leg room and foot space. The excellent all round visibility is enhanced by pressurized and filtered cab air supplied by a 14 vent, climate control system. An adjustable easy to read LCD colour monitor provides real time information of the machine functions, important diagnostic information and a wide variety of work tool settings. The monitor also doubles as a monitor for the rear view camera.
