A-Plant celebrated a double awards success at Hire Association Europe's (HAE) Hire Awards of Excellence 2008 in recognition of the great strides forward the company has made over the past 12 months in relation to Health and Safety and Training.

The firm, which has over 2,000 employees and hires Plant, Tools and Specialist Equipment from over 200 depots nationwide, was triumphant in two of 14 keenly contested categories at a glittering awards ceremony hosted at the prestigious Landmark Hotel in London. A-Plant scooped both the Best Contribution to Health and Safety Award sponsored by Bosch and the Excellence in Training Award sponsored by ConstructionSkills.

A record number of entries were received for this year's Hire Awards of Excellence and the HAE, the leading trade association for hire and rental companies in the UK and Ireland, celebrated the highest turnout ever at the event which is hosted to celebrate the best of the best in the hire industry. BBC's Ray Stubbs and former Liverpool player Mark Lawrenson handed out the accolades on the night.

In terms of Health and Safety, A-Plant's commitment is to everyone working in the construction industry. The company has invested 0.5 million in producing and distributing a free Site Safety Pack which encompasses a vast amount of useful information for Health and Safety, including a 60-page Health and Safety Handbook and posters on subjects such as noise at work, working in confined spaces and safe manual handling. With regards to its training initiatives, A-Plant has training and development programmes for every employee within the business from CEO to Apprentice, extending from e-learning to classroom based training.

A-Plant's Chief Executive Officer Sat Dhaiwal said: "We are absolutely delighted to win two top awards from the HAE. We've made significant investment and a great deal of progress in our Health and Safety and Training initiatives to ensure the safety of our employees and customers, to ensure that our staff can reach their full potential and to achieve customer satisfaction, so it is fantastic for this to be recognised in the industry."

These two latest awards successes come hot on the heels of A-Plant receiving a Gold Level Achievement Award for Occupational Health and Safety from RoSPA. The Gold standard is the highest level that can be achieved. A-Plant was also recently presented with a special award for Health and Safety in the hire industry from OPERC (Off-highway Plant and Equipment Research Centre).

As well as scooping the Best Contribution to Health and Safety and Excellence in Training Awards at the Hire Awards of Excellence 2008, A-Plant was shortlisted for a remarkable four other awards at the HAE ceremony - Hire Person of the Year for Sat Dhaiwal, Hire Company of the Year (Over Five Outlets), Hire Industry Website of the Year and Excellence in Customer Care.
