A-Plant wins Wates Contract - Biggest ever in Company's history
A-Plant, one of the leading non-operated equipment rental companies in the UK, has won the largest single supply contract in the company’s history from the Wates Group. The new three year contract is potentially worth well over £16 million and will involve over £10 million worth of investment by A-Plant in new Plant and Tools for Wates.
Established 110 years ago in 1897, Wates is one of the UK’s largest privately-owned construction services and development companies, with a national network of delivery centres and a workforce of more than 2,000 people.
As expected with a prestigious contract of this nature, competition amongst all major hire companies in the UK was fierce and the Wates contract was awarded to A-Plant on the basis of the company’s unique offering. A rigorous assessment took place over 14 months and examined and approved every area of operation from Safety Capability, Costs and Service Benefits to the Corporate Culture of the company.
Sat Dhaiwal, Chief Executive Officer of A-Plant said: “The ability to supply Plant and Tools from single sites was a major reason for A-Plant winning the Wates Contract as none of our competitors could do this. The high quality operating management systems at A-Plant enable us to work to and report on strict Key Performance Indicators identified by the customer. We were successful following a rigorous selection process which involved all the UK’s major hire companies and covered Health and Safety and IT in particular - we excelled under the severest examination.”

As part of a very strong, ongoing commitment in Environment, Health and Safety, A-Plant has launched a brand new Site Safety Pack, designed to help customers to understand how to work with ever evolving Health and Safety legislation on site. The new Site Safety Pack - which is distributed free of charge to customers - is part of a major campaign at A-Plant entitled ‘Setting the Safety Standard’ to further raise Health and Safety standards in the construction industry. The contents of the new Site Safety Pack include folders, posters, window stickers, Hand Arm Vibration and Dust supplements and an extensive 60-page Health and Safety handbook. The new pack is an evolution of A-Plant’s original award-winning Site Safety Pack introduced in 2006.

A-Plant, part of FTSE-250 company Ashtead Group plc, this year won the Hire Company of the Year (over five outlets) Award from the Hire Association Europe (HAE), the leading trade association for hire and rental companies in the UK and Ireland.
A-Plant, which has some 30,000 customers in the construction and industrial markets, has recently launched one of its most important customer service initiatives ever, the new A-Plant Guarantee. The first of its kind in the industry, the A-Plant Guarantee provides customers with guaranteed service levels with regard to Delivery, Service, Availability and Out-of-Hours Response. If A-Plant does not fulfil these service levels, the customer is offered a free hire or free delivery of a range of guaranteed stock items.
