Lumsden & Carroll Construction, part of the Esh Group of Companies based at Bowburn, County Durham has augmented its growing plant fleet with a selection of C series Volvo excavators.
Bringing its fleet of Volvo excavators to a total of nineteen, Lumsden & Carroll Construction has added three twenty one tonne EC210C crawler excavators, a fourteen tonne EW140C and a nineteen tonne EW180C wheeled excavator to its portfolio. And good performance with an excellent backup is part of the reason why Lumsden & Carroll's Plant Manager Michael Barrigan opts for Volvo. "We had one of the very first EC210 "A" series machines and it's given us good service and reliability over the last six years as have the other Volvo models we've subsequently purchased, "he commented.
Specifically purchased for a prestigious contract working on flood defence for the Northumbrian Water Board, the EW180C supplied to Lumsden & Carroll will be monitored by Volvo Construction Equipment's Excavator research and development team for 15000 hours. "Having a "hands on" relationship in a real environment, monitoring and receiving feedback from regular maintenance and tracking the performance is a practical demonstration of the importance Volvo places in investing heavily in R & D for the future," said Volvo Product Manager, Roger Teece.
Installed with the new Tier III compliant Volvo D6 engine developing 152 net hp, the EW180C offers high torque at low rpm, leading to ultra-efficient fuel consumption. The engine is impossible to stall as the onboard computer balances maximum available power to hydraulic output, preventing the engine from becoming overloaded (regardless of engine speed or pump demand). The total operating weight is 19.2 tonnes equipped with front dozer blade and outriggers and the machine is supplied with quick fit hydraulics, hammer / shear hydraulics and hose rupture valves as standard.
The new C series excavators from Volvo offer a larger Care Cab providing more room for the operator. Visibility has also much improved over the B model - especially upper and lower visibility in the operator's field of view. A Multi-adjustable seat and joysticks offer the perfect operating position and the enhanced suspension system surpasses emerging cab vibration requirements, reducing operator fatigue and whole body vibration. A new colour LCD display is easy to read, even in very bright conditions and offers real time information.
