Volvo’s my first port of call...

So says Stuart Rae as he takes delivery of another EC25 compact excavator from Volvo Construction Equipment.

When they established their hire business in November 2004, husband and wife team, Stuart and Gwen Rae started out with just a one an a half tonne Volvo mini and an old Pel Job ED750. Since then, Micro Plant Hire of Bonnybridge has flourished with the company now operating a total of twelve Volvo compact excavators from one and a half tonne EC15's up to the eight point eight tonne ECR88 reduced swing machines. More recently another EC25 has been added to the fleet along with a second hand fourteen tonne EC140B. "We've made some substantial investments this year to enhance our fleet and the service we provide with the view to grow with larger machines up to twenty one tonnes," comments Stuart Rae.

Apart from a couple of three quarter tonne machines, the entire Micro Plant Hire fleet is comprised of Volvo construction products and in Stuart Rae's words; Volvo is his first port of call. "We like the Volvo product range and have certainly appreciated the level of service support through to the overall package on offer including finance," he continued.

As with all Volvo construction equipment, the compact excavator line develops impressive levels of performance and technological advances. Examples found on the EC25 just delivered to Micro Plant Hire are the variable flow power control hydraulic system for precise control under all load conditions and safety features such as Roll Over Protection Structure (ROPS), Tip Over Protection Structure (TOPS) and Falling Objects protection Structure (FOPS) contribute to outstanding operator safety.

The design of the Volvo compact range facilitates very easy maintenance and access to the hydraulic system and engine compartment. The swing away counterweights make all areas of the engine compartment accessible. Other features include two-speed travel easily selected from the cab providing good tractive effort in low and high travel speeds to shorten traveling time on site.

The operator's cab is well proportioned with the cab door offering a wide opening with the left-hand console in the up position. The cab floor and step are non-slip, the flat floor providing plenty of room for the operator's feet and is easy to clean. Excellent all-around visibility and low internal noise levels are other features found on the Volvo compact excavator.

Micro Plant Hire, based in Bonnybridge is well located to service the Central Belt area of Scotland with operated and non operated machine hire. The company carries out its own maintenance and also provides a delivery and collection service.
